I was always concerned most with my own music,
but I was always keen to hear the music of others as well, and I enjoyed writing about new music for the Village Voice from 1971 to 1982. Later, when I could earn my living with my own music, I gave up journalism, but I never gave up going to concerts and hanging out with my favorite composers, most of whom also became real friends. Almost 30 years after giving up music criticism, I again wanted to tell people about the music I loved, and I found an original conversational way to do this with a series of programs devoted to Music by my Friends.
